Challenge for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to be a REAL MAN
Is a REAL MAN all about strength, ego, or is he much about attitude? Attitude, yes, but I thought a REAL MAN was much more than that, rather for his smarts, intellect, and on a high level of caring for other people than himself.
On May 2nd, just a few days from now, the world of Boxing, alternatively known the "Sweet Science," will be rocked to it's core. When they step into the ring, they will in fact together weigh in at barely 300lbs, but when the purse is upwards of $300 million dollars, they are literally more than worth their weight in gold.
The undefeated 1996 Olympian, Mayweather has the odds as the likely winner. Mayweather is Achilles incarnated and known for his ego, which fans claim as a well deserved merit. Others claim his ego is overblown and is long overdue a taste of "hubris." Expect no humility from Mayweather; he's not going to claim to owe all of his success to his fans. He acts as if he has nothing to lose. This man obviously does not hear criticism. He is egoist supreme; a true American individualist.
As well, Mayweather said that there is one thing he doesn't not want to lose: Money. He has said "Money isn't everything, it's the only thing." Some people of massive financial means are known for their philanthropy. He is certainly not. As to top it all off, in a radio interview with Kelly Mac some years ago, he said:
“Everybody’s always talking about giving, giving, giving. That’s the problem. Everybody’s doing so much giving, at the end of the day, they may not have nothing."
This may seem like a supremely self centered thing to say, but not too make him seem scrooge-like, just as recently as 2014 he began to donate more and more to charities in Nevada.
HERE'S THE BIG IDEA:
I want to place a challenge for Floyd Mayweather Jr to be a REAL MAN: Why not make the true K.O. of this legendary fight a huge donation to charity, your biggest yet? LeBron did it, i.e - "The Decision." Either way, if you win this bout, or loses this bout, you have the chance of changing into a different class of athlete by giving the largest percentage of your winnings yet to date.
So why not throw a surprise hook - instead of giving your dollar bills to hookers - try to pay it forward to those in need or pay it forward to your fans? Some may not think that he is in need of a better image, but if you take a look at his Instagram, he makes it perfectly clear that he is a playboy in an almost comic mid 2000's sort of way - stacks of money, half naked women, godforsaken ugly jewelrey. Maybe he could use a bit of a better image as he gets older, and this would be a great way to get closer to one.
After this fight, he has nothing else really to prove either way. If he wins, he continues to be the best; if he loses, he is the still the best. But he could rise up above the ranks of other mainstream athletes with his earnings and influence others. Mayweather could become a UNICEF ambassador like David Beckham, who is the same age as him.
He could become as big as Lebron James, Tom Brady, Derek Jeter, Tiger Woods, or celebrity Robert Downey Jr post-alcohol/drug rehab in balancing the act of being a great athlete and/or unique public citizen. They have all individually raised millions; they have also lost and faced failure in their sports several times over, which Mayweather has not. Imagine what it could be like for an undefeated athlete like Mayweather to ask people to step up to give to help those in need! It could be inspiring to millions!
The reason this idea is also being suggested is because Mayweather could suffer a huge blow to his ego if he loses. He could be severely devastated, and one of the ways he could offset his loss is by humbling himself to his fans and the public alike. For all we know he could lock himself up in his mansion and never be seen again, like Bruce Wayne.
If Pacquiao loses, he has a nation of millions to support him. In fact, Pacquiao is already a notable public servant as a congressman in his native Philippines. He will come back proud, praised, and supported by everyone either way. But Mayweather...who knows?
